The Snob Talks Having It All, Immigration, Fifty Shades of Horrible on NPR

Women! Can you have it all? (No.) Immigrants! Will you be racially profiled in Arizona? (Probably.) Book lovers! Is former Twilight fan fiction Fifty Shades of Grey terrible? (YES.) All this and more as The Snob pops in to the "Beauty Shop" segment on NPR's Tell Me More with Michel Martin. Michel was out today, so Viviana Hurtado (who I'm often on with on the Beauty Shop) was guest hosting. She was great! Joining myself and Viviana were PJ Media editor Bridget Johnson and Deepa Iyer of South Asian Americans Leading Together.

The Snob Will Be On NPR's Tell Me More Today

I'm back ... on NPR's "Tell Me More" with Michel Martin this Wednesday. We'll be talking about the recent Supreme Court decision on Arizona's controversial anti-illegal immigration law, women "not" being able to have it all and that horrible Fifty Shades of Grey book that's oh-so-popular. I'll post the audio of the chatfest when it goes live later today online. Check your local NPR listings for Tell Me More.

The Snob Talks Catholic/Contraception Debate and Lolo "No-No" Jones' Virginity Talk

Lolo JonesThe Snob returned to NPR's Tell Me More with Michel Martin for the Beauty Shop segment Wednesday to talk the Catholic Church wanting an exemption on paying for birth control in mandated health insurance, Olympic hopeful, sprinter Lolo Jones opening up about being a 29-year-old virgin and Eva Longoria's controversial, but dead-on-arrival TV pilot for "Devious Maids." I was joined for the segment with the usual suspects -- Wise Latina Club's Viviana Hurtado and US News & World Report's Mary Kate Cary, as well as TV critic Mekeisha Madden Toby.

The Snob Will Return to Weekly Blogging Tomorrow

After being swamped the last two weeks with all-consuming writing projects, The Snob is resting up today so that I can bring you a blog post (or two) tomorrow. I'd write something witty today but ... I got nothing. That project wiped me out. Until them, check out my appearance from May 2nd on NPR's Tell Me More with Michel Martin.

The Snob Talks Secret Service Servicing Sex Workers, Shacking Up and the Marriage of Brangelina on NPR

Unrelated ... yet apropos. The Snob returned to NPR's Tell Me More with Michel Martin for a stop in the Beauty Shop segment to talk about the recent sex scandal involving Secret Service agents and US military staff in Colombia, a recent story on how shacking up isn't always an indicator of "marriage material" and a brief bit on Brangelina getting married for the kids. I was joined in the Beauty Shop with regulars Mary Kate Cary, Viviana Hurtado and newcomer PG Media's Bridget Johnson.

The Snob Talks Trayvon Martin, Romney's Illinois win on NPR

The Snob returned to NPR's Tell Me More with Michel Martin's "beauty shop" segment Wednesday to talk about the tragic death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin (which I wrote about at length on Tuesday), Mitt Romney's recent win in Illinois making it less likely I'll get my dream of a brokered GOP convention and whether or not the joke on actress Sophia Vergara's accent in a recent Cover Girl commercial is funny or offensive. Also in on the chat, Beauty Shop regulars Mary Kate Cary, Viviana Hurtado and Chicago Sun Times columnist Mary Mitchell.

The Snob Talks Rush, Black Women's Bodies and the Angry Latina Stereotype on NPR

The Snob (me) on a panel at The Washington Center, this week, discussing women in communications as part of Women's History Month. (Journalist and activist Marga Fipp, right.)The Snob returned to the "Beauty Shop" this week on NPR's "Tell Me More" with Michel Martin. Joined by fellow Beauty Shop regulars Mary Kate Cary, Viviana Hurtado and newcomer Lonnae O'Neal Parker of The Washington Post, we discussed Rush Limbaugh finally going one "slut" comment too far, O'Neal Parker's article for the Post about how black women having a more positive view of their bodies than their white female counterparts (even though statistically more black women are overweight), and a recent story on Jezebel about why Latinas feel they can't get angry -- thanks to that whole "hot" Latina anger stereotype that causes others to dismiss and marginalize them when they do get peeved.

The Snob Talks Santorum, Rihanna, Chris Brown remix on NPR

The Snob returned to NPR's "Tell Me More" with Michel Martin Wednesday, where I took up residence in the "Beauty Shop" segment. Along with Beauty Shop regulars Michelle Bernard, Viviana Hurtado and Mary Kate Cary we talked about GOP presidential wannabe Rick Santorum's preoccupation with what's going on in your uterus and the recent musical collaboration between pop singer Rihanna and her abusive ex-boyfriend, R&B singer Chris Brown. Short version of what I thought: People are typically indifferent to unsympathetic when a friend takes an ex-boyfriend back. When it's someone famous and everyone can pass judgment, I imagine that teeth-sucking derision comes back tenfold.

The Snob On NPR, Talking SOTU, WaPo's Look At Black Women, and Heidi & Seal's Break-up

On Wednesday, The Snob returned to the Beauty Shop segment of NPR's "Tell Me More" with Michel Martin.  We talked about President Obama's State of the Union address, the GOP response (Ugh, Herman Cain ...), The Washington Post's recent survey on Black American women, and the end of Victoria's Secret model Heidi Klum and "Kiss From A Rose" singer Seal. Normally Michel can count on me to make fun of celebrities because 90 percent of the time I'm the "Who cares?" girl. But it was about divorce. Divorce sucks no matter who you are. Best of luck Heidi n' Seal.
