I was telling him how I felt my parents had done me a service by never indulging me in my many, many childhood anxieties and phobias, insisting that I learn proper coping skills -- even though my parents didn't quite understand what my issues were or what a coping skill was. They just knew it was going to be hard for me to go to school and make friends if I was still having meltdowns over believing bugs were crawling all over me."
