THE BLACK SNOB, a politics/pop culture blog written by journalist and former newspaper columnist Danielle C. Belton, is a hodgepodge of fun and facts written in a wry, intellectual yet accessible style.

Started Aug. 2007, the blog began its current incarnation Jan. 2008 and was re-launched with a new Web site on Squarespace Jan. 20, 2009. The launch was meant to coincide with the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. Since 2008 the readership has grown rapidly, as well as its stature on other sites and in the press. The site started off with a total of about six thousand visitors and has jumped to more than a million viewers.

WHY SHOULD YOU ADVERTISE WITH THE SNOB?

If you want to reach an affluent, discriminating, educated audience, including women, African-Americans and individuals in the 18-to-50+ age range, this is the place to be! From pop culture to politics to racial relations to celebrity to fashion, the average BLACK SNOB reader is well-rounded and opinionated, open to new ideas and new ventures, especially services and products that cater to their specific interests in art, travel, literature, networking and political activism.

On average, THE BLACK SNOB has about 3,850 visitors a day, with readers spending an average 3:49 minutes on the site. More than 40 percent of the readership checks the site more than once a day for stories and updates.

According to site statistics monitoring site Quantcast, the majority of THE BLACK SNOB’s readers are either college students or business professionals, often making between $30,000 to $100,000 per year plus. Seventy-six percent have some college or an advanced degree. A majority (79 percent) are childless.

Of the site’s traffic, more than 37.5 percent comes from direct traffic and according to Feedburner, THE BLACK SNOB has had at a maximum of 1,430 subscribers, the majority through Google Feed Catcher and email subscriptions.

AWARDS AND AFFILIATIONS:

THE BLACK SNOB is also a member of the black bloggers group, The Afrospear, Black Blog Watch and Top Sista Sites, where THE BLACK SNOB rates as number #2 out of 100 sites.

The site has also received awards from BlackPoliticsOnTheWeb.com in 2008 named Best Overall Political Blog and Best New Political Blog from the 2009 Black Weblog Awards for Best Writing in a Blog and won the 2008 Black Weblog Awards for Best Writing in a Blog and Best Blog Series.

Through the site, I have appeared multiple times on Sirius/XM radio's POTUS show, The New School, and NPR’s News and Notes Bloggers’ Roundtable, as well as Swedish Radio’s P1 program. I’ve been interviewed for several publications regarding my coverage of Michelle Obama and her sense of style, as well as offering my opinion on race relations in America. I also write columns occasionally for Mediaite, ESSENCE.com, Huffington Post, Daily Kos and author Cintra Wilson’s Dregublog.

The site is also well connected to many social networking groups, like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

THE BLACK SNOB also has a popular sister site, THE SECRET COUNCIL OF AMERICAN NEGROES, that is a satirical site with a smaller, niche audience. Much of its audience is a bleed-over from THE BLACK SNOB site. It has a page rank of four, an average of 200 visitors a day, with more than 50,000 overall visitors.
